Why Crank?

This is one of the most popular questions we get asked..."so why Crank Software as a name?"  A lot of people have some good guesses:

  • We crank out the code (true....but cheesy)
  • We are recovering drug addicts (I don't think so)
  • Naming things isn't our strong suit (maybe true, but not the reason)

It's actually because we all came together out of a shared enjoyment of riding bikes over sharp rocks, also known as mountain biking. And it was on the trails where the idea for Crank was hatched. So when we started the company we wanted a name that let everyone know we are mountain bikers...however since everyone asks "why Crank Software?" it looks like maybe the third point is correct.

If you ever want to come visit Crank bring along your bike (except in the winter...maybe snowshoes instead) since as you can see we are very close to a great trail head.
